Thirteen Reasons Why broke my heart. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, as it wasn’t as rich in literary techniques as what I usually read, but it made me feel and it discussed an important topic. More teens need to read this and take away the lessons it teaches. How much better my high school years would have been (and I’m sure many of yours), had people exhibited an ounce of kindness and compassion. I’ve lost so, so many friends and family members to suicide and have had even more attempt. It hurts my heart. If anyone ever needs someone to talk to, even if we don’t know each other, I’m here. The Netflix series adaptation of Hannah Baker’s story, though rather different from the book in many ways, was extremely well done, in my opinion. I think that readers should be cautious when deciding to pick up this book or watch the show, as it can be very triggering to those who have dealt with self-harm, suicidal thoughts/attempts, or know someone who has.
