I was blown away by Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies. I originally picked this book up because I saw the trailer for the HBO limited series adaptation and immediately knew that I would love it. After finding out that it was based on a book, I had to read it before watching the show. There were deep elements of tension and surprise from start to finish. I wholeheartedly appreciated the core of the story being founded on women protecting women. It is unfortunate that so many women are able to relate to the rape and domestic abuse survivors in this story, but these stories are real, raw, honest, and need to be told. This book, though heavy and emotional, was also consistently funny, which isn’t something I typically seek out in my reads; however, I found the humor refreshing in this book. These characters were human, the plot was incredible, and the HBO adaptation quickly became one of my all time favorite shows. This book marked the start of my first book hangover in a long while. I hope that you all read this book because it was one of my favorites this year, if not ever. If you have read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
